What is periodic lightning rod inspection?
It is the process of checking at regular intervals whether the lightning rod (lightning protection system) safely transmits lightning energy to the ground. The purpose is to ensure the safety of life, structure, and equipment.
Why is it done?
To verify that protection against lightning risk continues
To detect breaks, corrosion, or damage
To meet legal and insurance requirements
How is it done? (Briefly)
Visual inspection,
The lightning rod, down conductors, and connections are examined
Breaks, loosening, and rust are checked
Grounding measurement
The grounding resistance of the lightning rod is measured with a special device
The value must comply with standards
Continuity check
Electrical continuity is tested in the down conductors
How often is it done?
At least once a year
Re-installed after lightning strikes or renovations
Standards
TS EN 62305
Regulations on Grounding in Electrical Installations
Who should do it?
It should be done by an authorized electrical engineer/technician with Ekipnet "K" number.
